Lyazzat Khanim

Lyazzat Khanim (b. 1994, Western Kazakhstan) is an artist whose interest spans fashion, design, and painting. Khanim graduated from the UNESCO Art School in Astana in 2012 before earning her BFA from Parsons The New School for Design in New York (2017). After her studies, she launched the eco-conscious brand 5:45 AM, rooted in the philosophy of minimalism. Khanim worked as a fashion designer in New York before relocating to Istanbul, where she further developed her brand while expanding her practice into graphic design.

Currently based in Basel where she is enrolled into MA in Fine Arts program at Academy of Art and Design FHNW , Khanim channels these diverse experiences into contemporary painting, moving image and digital art. Her paintings, often hyper-realistic with subtle surrealist undertones, focus on the overlooked beauty of everyday environments. By isolating simple objects and rendering them with heightened clarity, the artist invites to experience moments of fascination that quickly shift toward a sense of unease and displacement.

While at times addressing themes of consumer culture, Khanim’s practice is primarily concerned with archiving fragments of lived experience—transforming the personal into the public and returning the public to the personal. In doing so, the artist builds a visual diary that blurs the boundary between ordinary perception and poetic reflection.

Khanim holds Départemental du Puy-de-Dôme Prize, Clemont-Ferrand, France since 2025. Selected collections include TOVA foundation and the Eurasian Cultural Alliance.
